Why wait?
Isaiah continues praying: "For since the beginning of the world Men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, Nor has the eye seen any God besides You, Who acts for the one who waits for Him. You meet him who rejoices and does righteousness, Who remembers You in Your ways. You are indeed angry, for we have sinned- In these ways we continue; And we need to be saved. But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away. And there is no one who calls on Your name, Who stirs himself up to take hold of You; For You have hidden Your face from us, And have consumed us because of our iniquities. But now, O Lord, You are our Father; We are the clay, and You our potter; And all we are the work of Your hand." Isaiah 64:4-8
The power of God had always been on display before Jerusalem. Yet even in their prosperity, they failed to respond to Him.
Now the nation had collapsed under the Babylonian invasion.
Isaiah recognized the same God whose power had once built and blessed their nation was now allowing them to experience the consequences of their unrepentant and rebellious hearts. So Isaiah prays for God to tear open the heavens and make the mountains shake at His presence.
And here's the challenge for us:
We can miss what God is doing in our lives when things are going well.
We can enjoy His blessings without recognizing His presence. We can become comfortable with His goodness and only begin looking for Him when life falls apart.
So, do you see what God is doing in your life right now?
Don't wait for everything to hit the fan before you seek Him. Don't wait for hardship to remind you that you need Him. Don't wait for the darkness to make you aware of the light.
Why wait? Seek Him today. Live in the reality of His powerful presence today, not merely when you desperately need Him.
