Scarlet thread of the Father's promises.
Jeremiah 52 is interesting to study. I encourage you to dig into it as you read. This chapter parallels 2 Kings 24-25 and recounts the fulfillment of Jeremiah's prophecies. Yet, even in the midst of destruction, we see a beautiful reminder of the Father's scarlet thread of hope.
"Now it came to pass in the thirty-seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-fifth day of the month, that Evil-Merodach king of Babylon, in the first year of his reign, lifted up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah and brought him out of prison. And he spoke kindly to him and gave him a more prominent seat than those of the kings who were with him in Babylon. So Jehoiachin changed from his prison garments, and he ate bread regularly before the king all the days of his life." Jeremiah 52:31-33
Why is this significant? Jehoiachin, also called Jeconiah, appears in Matthew 1 in Jesus' genealogy!
In the midst of destruction, sin, & rebellion, God's promises remain true. Jehoiachin was a descendant of King David, to whom the Father had promised an everlasting kingdom through his offspring. Though Judah's earthly throne had fallen, God's covenant promise had not. Another generation in the lineage leading to the Messiah, Jesus Christ (Son of David), was preserved. And through Jesus, that promise finds its ultimate fulfillment in His everlasting reign!
The Father's promises remain true yesterday, today, and forever! His scarlet thread of hope runs throughout Scripture.
Maybe you're hanging on by a thread today. Maybe you've lost hope in the midst of sin, shame, or desperation. But just as God's faithfulness was woven throughout generations of brokenness & rebellion, His faithfulness remains today.
The scarlet thread of hope still points to Jesus! The Father has not abandoned His promises, nor will He ever. He's been faithful, He is faithful, and He'll forever remain faithful. Let's praise Him!
