If it's more important!
Isaiah ministers to Israel in the midst of their idolatry. He shares a word from the Lord calling them to return to Him and revealing His desire for their good.
Isaiah writes provocatively: ""On a lofty and high mountain You have set your bed; Even there you went up To offer sacrifice. Also behind the doors and their posts You have set up your remembrance; For you have uncovered yourself to those other than Me, And have gone up to them; You have enlarged your bed And made a covenant with them; You have loved their bed, Where you saw their nudity." Isaiah 57:7-8
Israel had opened themselves up to other nations and other things. They had made them more important than trusting and following the Lord. They found comfort and relief in something other than Him. But in the end, that temporary satisfaction would fade, and they would see the error of their ways.
Similarly, we can do the same.
When we prioritize other people or other things over the Lord, we are guilty of idolatry. Whatever we place above Him becomes like weeds in our hearts and minds, slowly pulling us away from the Lord.
What are you making a priority over the Lord today?
Let's deal with the idols in our hearts. Let's not allow anything or anyone to become more important to us than the Lord.
If it's more important than Him, it's idolatry.
Make a mental list right now. What is something you think about more than the Lord? What is something you give yourself to more than you give yourself to Him?
Ask the Lord to show you.
Let's deal with the idols in our hearts. Let's turn away from anything that has taken His place and be refreshed in the presence of the Lord, and Him only.
