Who are you speaking for?

Job challenges his friends in Job 13:6-11: "Now hear my reasoning, And heed the pleadings of my lips. Will you speak wickedly for God, And talk deceitfully for Him? Will you show partiality for Him? Will you contend for God? Will it be well when He searches you out? Or can you mock Him as one mocks a man? He will surely rebuke you If you secretly show partiality. Will not His excellence make you afraid, And the dread of Him fall upon you?"

Does the Lord need us to defend Him? We must be cautious when defending God, especially if we falsely assume sin in others' lives. There are biblical ways to lovingly confront sin in our brothers & sisters when evidence is clear, but Job's friends made assumptions without proof. They saw Job's righteousness yet presumed hidden sin.

How do you handle conflict or address sin with those closest to you-your spouse, family, or spiritual family? Our first priority must be to approach others in Jesus' name, which means going in love with a heart for restoration. Scripture gives us authority to speak into each other's lives, but we must do so with humility and grace. Let's go and receive correction in love. Relationships matter to Jesus.
