Innocent before proven guilty?
We meet Job's third friend, Zophar, who echoes the sentiments of the others: "If iniquity were in your hand, and you put it far away, And would not let wickedness dwell in your tents; Then surely you could lift up your face without spot; Yes, you could be steadfast, and not fear;" Job 11:14-15
What happened to "innocent until proven guilty"? The injustice we see in Job's time persists today. The enemy of our souls doesn't need new tricks when the old ones still work. There's no evidence of guilt in Job's life-only difficult circumstances-yet guilt is assumed.
Let's not forget: the Lord called Job righteous. Still, even in his righteousness, Job wasn't perfect. This isn't to throw shade on Job but to point us to the One who was perfect, yet called guilty while wholly innocent-Jesus.
As we read Job's story, let's remember the One who takes away all shame and guilt. Through Jesus' innocent sacrifice, we are made innocent in our guilt, once and for all. No one can throw shade on you. In Jesus, we are justified and sanctified. Take a moment to praise Him!
